hi everyone inat kler here with a new
0:13
video tutorial and today I'm going to
0:16
show you or teach you um our journal
0:19
page tutorial for beginners we are going
0:21
to explore the three steps or the three
0:24
elements you need to make an AR journal
0:27
page and the three elements are are the
0:31
background the focal point and the
0:34
details that you need to add at the end
0:36
to tie everything together so let's get
0:39
started with the
0:42
background you can create the background
0:45
basically in any way that you want you
0:48
can use sprays you can use acrylic
0:51
paints you can use stencils you can use
0:56
um paper you can use tissue paper you
0:59
can can use crayons you can use whatever
1:02
you want to add color to your background
1:05
I'm using watercolors today we're going
1:08
to explore water colors in different
1:11
tutorials but today I want to show you
1:14
how to make a really easy background
1:16
we're going to explore these layers
1:18
these tiers these these steps with very
1:23
easy materials and
1:26
techniques so I'm just going to add two
1:29
two different watercolors to my
1:32
background just to I want to make this
1:36
page very easy not complicated so you
1:39
can follow the three steps to make the
1:41
art joural page so I'm using yellow and
1:45
I'm using sort of an aqua color and I'm
1:50
blending them on the paper I'm using a
1:53
wet brush and I'm controlling the shade
1:57
of the color by
2:00
adding more or less water so I'm working
2:04
on a dry paper sometimes you see
2:07
watercolor techniques when you work on
2:09
wet paper we're going to work on dry
2:13
paper with a wet brush and simply
2:17
add um the aqua color and the yellow
2:20
color on the page just by some brush
2:25
Strokes blending the colors as we go and
2:29
if you feel like there is a spot that is
2:32
too dark you simply add more water and
2:36
then it becomes brighter one thing to
2:38
remember though is that when watercolor
2:43
dries they become lighter so just
2:48
remember that and don't make it too
2:51
light otherwise when it dries it can be
2:54
lighter that you originally
2:57
wanted so I'm keeping
3:00
I'm just adding more and more
3:04
watercolors just those two and you see
3:07
that while I'm blending them on the
3:09
paper we get new
3:12
colors because when I blend the green or
3:15
it's an aqua it's a type of
3:17
blue with yellow I get green get get
3:23
shades of green so basically you can see
3:27
how we have a third color just by adding
3:30
those
3:30
two and of course if you don't like this
3:33
color combination you can change it and
3:35
use whatever colors that you want and
3:39
again it doesn't have to be watercolors
3:41
you can use whatever you have whatever
3:44
you want to the the pre preferred
3:48
technique or material you have to add
3:51
color to the background so let's keep on
3:54
adding more color and again you can
3:59
spray that will make this process much
4:02
faster or take a brush and paint the
4:05
page with acrylic paints or even cut
4:09
pieces of paper like we did in the
4:11
collage page and add them to
4:16
the
4:18
background and of course you can combine
4:21
techniques to make a background you can
4:24
color with acrylic paint and also add
4:27
some tissue paper pieces or some other
4:30
pattern paper pieces or you can um
4:34
create pattern in the background with
4:36
some stencils and acrylic paints you can
4:38
cover the paper with distress inks also
4:42
an
4:43
idea so like I said the first step to
4:46
making an arinal page is creating the
4:50
background the background can be as
4:53
minimal or as busy as you want it to
4:57
be and it's all a matter of of taste of
5:00
style of your art of your of
5:04
preference you can try to make two kinds
5:07
of pages one page is busier than the
5:11
other just experiment and try so you'll
5:15
learn the the the steps that you need to
5:19
make the art journal page so basically I
5:22
want to see how it all looks when it's
5:25
dry so you can just let it dry in the
5:27
air but I have a heat tool that I'm
5:29
going to use to make the page dry and
5:33
make all the art um all the waterc
5:37
colors dry and then see if it's dark
5:40
enough for me if the colors are visible
5:43
enough for me and if not I can always go
5:46
back and add more
5:51
colors and you'll be able to see once
5:54
it's
5:55
dry that the colors are slightly lighter
5:59
like I I said
6:01
before but it's fine for me next step of
6:05
making our journal page is adding the
6:07
focal point this is the middle
6:10
layer of this that triangle that I asked
6:14
you to imagine and that focal point can
6:18
basically be
6:20
anything but it has to be something that
6:23
is large enough bold enough with v
6:26
enough visual weight remember we
6:29
discussed that in previous page what is
6:32
visual weight it has to be with enough
6:35
visual weight to be a focal point and to
6:38
draw your eye to it so that's supposed
6:42
to catch the attention that's supposed
6:44
to be the center of the page everything
6:47
is going around that thing or that
6:52
element and that is the main idea of
6:55
your
6:56
page so I'm using um tissue paper
7:00
with a face on it I'm going to attach it
7:03
to my
7:04
page so some more ideas for focal points
7:08
can be a cutout shape from a magazine a
7:13
large stamped
7:15
image um a
7:18
drawing uh a large image that you
7:24
stencil it can be a shape it doesn't be
7:27
have to be like a silhouette of a person
7:29
it can be a butterfly it can be a circle
7:32
it can be a flower a tree a
7:35
house anything that you want to say
7:40
basically an AR joural page needs to say
7:43
something so the focal point needs to
7:46
match what you want to
7:48
say so if you want to talk about spring
7:52
you might want to add flowers and if you
7:54
want to talk about how you're feeling
7:56
blue or down then you want my want to
8:00
draw clouds with
8:02
rain um etc etc we also talked about how
8:09
to translate a
8:12
quote to an image and that can also help
8:16
with this step because you have to know
8:20
what you want to say in order to match
8:22
the right focal point so I'm using Mod
8:27
Podge you can use gel medium to glue the
8:31
tissue paper to my
8:34
page this makes it absorbs the the
8:37
tissue paper absorbs the glue and then
8:40
it looks like it's handdrawn on the page
8:45
it doesn't look like the P the tissue
8:48
paper was attached to the page so I like
8:51
using tissue paper because it looks like
8:53
it's embedded in the page
8:56
itself so this is going to be my focal
8:59
point
9:01
and the second step of making an our
9:03
journal page remember the first step was
9:05
making the background now we're adding a
9:09
focal point and supporting elements
9:14
supporting elements are basically if you
9:16
need to add more colors or patterns to
9:20
the background for example if you want
9:23
to
9:24
boost the focal point maybe add more
9:27
color to that
9:30
maybe he needs to add more elements to
9:32
the focal point because it's not bold
9:35
enough for not um doesn't draw the eye
9:40
like you
9:41
wanted it can also be the text the
9:44
writing but I like to leave the writing
9:47
to the final
9:48
step so in the second step I like to
9:51
concentrate on adding my focal point so
9:56
I'm making I'm just drying everything
9:58
because you can't add anything on a wet
10:01
Mod Podge everything everything needs to
10:04
be completely dry for
10:07
that and my supporting elements for this
10:11
focal point is adding a little bit of
10:14
color to the face in the hair of this
10:18
um image so I'm using the exact same
10:22
colors as I use in the background
10:24
because I don't want to add more colors
10:27
I want this page to be
10:30
only with these two colors but what I
10:33
can't play with is the boldness and the
10:36
Darkness of the same colors that I used
10:38
in the background so I'm still adding
10:41
the yellow and the aqua but I'm adding
10:44
them in a much darker
10:48
layer creating some Shadows on the
10:52
face and the hairline under the
10:55
eyebrowsbrow
11:01
and next to the nose under the mouth all
11:05
the places that you need to add Shadows
11:08
on a face and by the way we are going to
11:11
explore making a face in our journaling
11:13
in future
11:15
tutorials so I'm just adding the same
11:19
colors but in a bolder and
11:24
darker Hues and shades under the neck
11:29
under the
11:31
chin so this is making my focal
11:36
point looking better
11:39
more eye
11:42
catching
11:45
and just
11:49
more a part of the face
11:53
basically and a part of the page because
11:56
the colors match it all looks like one
12:00
piece of art you need to match the
12:02
colors when you create
12:09
art so I'm
12:11
just adding some final touches to
12:15
my
12:20
face and then I'll be able
12:24
to add the last layer the final layer
12:28
the last lay there
12:30
is the final touches which are the
12:34
writing adding the text and all the
12:37
marks and details that basically tie
12:41
everything together and add some
12:44
interest and message to the
12:49
page so this is where accept writing
12:52
this is where stamping will come in Mark
12:55
making maybe stenciling a little bit
12:58
dood in drawing all those things
13:02
splattering all those things
13:05
are part of the last step of making an
13:08
arinal page so I'm dry everything
13:11
because again you can't do anything on
13:14
wet
13:17
paint and now I can go ahead and add all
13:20
those final touches all those
13:24
details to my page
13:32
just want to finish
13:38
everything until I'm
13:46
happy with all the
13:54
shadowing and then we'll be able to move
13:56
on to the final step
14:01
so we had the first step of making the
14:03
background the second step of adding a
14:05
focal point and now the third step the
14:07
top of the triangle the last layer is
14:10
adding the details the writing and all
14:13
the final touches to the
14:16
page let's dry it a little bit more and
14:20
I like to add details at least to this
14:23
type of page which is kind of a
14:25
minimalist page with a black pen so just
14:29
writing with a regular black
14:35
pen and I'm going first I'm going to add
14:38
the text because the text is kind of a
14:41
large element on this page so I want to
14:45
build the final touches around it but
14:49
first want to add some more
14:53
interest to the background so did you
14:56
know that you
14:58
can stamp with
15:00
watercolors it doesn't come out as Crisp
15:03
And as sharp but it I like the look of
15:06
it so I just take some watercolors and I
15:09
paint the stamp without any acrylic
15:13
block I just use my hands to press the
15:16
stamp slightly on the page and then I
15:20
get that
15:22
image so this is a circle stamp you see
15:25
the circles they're not complete they're
15:27
not
15:29
nearly as crisp and sharp and complete
15:33
as if I were to use
15:36
ink but I really like how this looks and
15:39
it goes well with the watercolor theme
15:42
that I have on this
15:46
page and it
15:48
makes the background a little bit more
15:50
interesting gives it a little bit of
15:53
movement just those little circles I
15:56
love Circles by by the way
16:01
I want to add maybe a little bit
16:05
more I press very
16:09
gently
16:11
okay so now when it's dry I can go ahead
16:15
and add all the text and the doodling
16:18
and the marks that I want with my black
16:24
pen so once that's dry let's of course
16:27
if you don't have a heat tool
16:29
you need to wait until it's dry if you
16:31
live in a hot country that can take a
16:33
few minutes if not maybe an hour but
16:36
please make sure everything is
16:38
completely dry otherwise your pen will
16:40
be completely destroyed I can't believe
16:42
how many
16:44
pens I single-handedly destroyed because
16:46
I was
16:47
impatient so I'm going to add my
16:52
writing
16:54
um facing basically horizontally while
16:59
the page is turned in 90° so when you
17:02
will look on the page the handwriting
17:05
will be on the
17:09
side CU nobody said that handwriting
17:12
should
17:13
be horizontally like you normally would
17:16
this is Art and in art everything goes
17:19
so you can add your text any way that
17:22
you want in waves upside down from right
17:26
to left from left to right ver
17:28
vertically horizontally any way that you
17:30
want different fonts different boldness
17:33
different colors different
17:37
anything so I just added a
17:43
quote and again you find the quote that
17:46
you want any text is relevant for you it
17:49
can just be thoughts it can be a quote
17:52
it can be a line from a book it can be
17:54
lyrics of a song it can be a verse from
17:57
the Bible it can be whatever you want it
18:00
can just be one word can be a title
18:04
whatever you want so this is the
18:08
text and this is how it
18:11
looks and now I want to add my final
18:14
touches to the page I'm just going
18:17
to add some
18:21
scribbles with my
18:27
pen and then I think I'm also going to
18:30
add some circles like I said I really
18:32
love
18:34
circles so the circles with the pen will
18:37
complement the circles in the background
18:39
that I made with the
18:43
stamp so I'm just going to add different
18:47
size circles in a
18:51
cluster and this is going to be like I
18:53
said a very minimal page because I
18:55
wanted to concentrate on showing you the
18:58
three different steps to making an art
19:00
journal page and how they all combine
19:02
together to one page so first we had the
19:05
background then we had the focal point
19:09
and finally we had the text and the
19:11
details and you can see how it all comes
19:14
together now so I've added a few more
19:16
details to the page and the this tip
