Mixed Media Art Journal Cover

I have recently started a new art journal. It has a cover with images I don’t really like because they don’t have an artsy look. So I decided to create a new cover!

I first had to cover the images that were on the journal so I painted it with three coats of gesso. Then I sprayed it with different colors using different stencils. Don’t forget to dry the layers when you work otherwise they will be one big blur.

I added more color with Gelatos that I rubbed with my finger.
Finally I added embellishments. Some of the embellishments were hand made with Mod Podge mold and melt. A really easy and fun technique to create your own embellishment.

I didn’t just want to write art journal on the cover so I added a quote about art by Pablo Picasso with a pen nib and black ink. That is a great way to write on a treated surface like this. You might destroy your pen if you try to write with that.

Make sure not to miss the video tutorial for additional tips and the complete creation process.

Have fun creating!
