Window Triple Frame

Hi friends! Sometimes you see a product and it takes you to unexpected places! This is what happened to me when I saw the new window pane by Basically Bare. I came up with a mixed media window frame that was so much fun creating. I created two frames with chipboard strips measuring: 1 1/2″ X 9 5/16″  (inner frame) and 1 1/2″ X 11 5/16″ (outer frame). Each strip is cut at a 45 degrees angle at both ends, which will insure a professional looking frame. Build each frame and secure it on the back with adhesive tape.   Embellish the frame and window with different metal embellishments, flowers, jewelry etc. I have a box full of trinkets and findings that I get from flea markets, garages, scrap yards and hardware stores. After the frames and window are embellished cover everything with a gesso. You will need a bit of patience to cover everything but it’s worth it! Make …

Dance – Art journal page

Art journaling is a great opportunity not just to experiment with new techniques and materials but it’s also a great opportunity to inspire yourself and create a project for your soul. This art journal page will always remind me to dance not just literally but metaphorically as well, simply let my creativity and my hands dance!   Start by coloring the page with Pan Pastels and baby wipes. It’s a really easy and fun technique to create a colorful background. Add some stamps for more texture and interest. You can also add some patterns with stencils and Pan Pastels using baby wipe like you would use a blending sponge.   Cut images of dancing girls from a patterned paper, I used MME paper. Adhere them to your page.   Then add two large doily stamps and color them with distress ink and a watered brush. Write the title with a black pen and add whimsical and fun patterns to fill …

HOW TO COVER A BINDER WITH FABRIC

Inside: how to cover a binder with fabric and give it a new look     Since I was young I had trouble accepting things as they are. I always tried to change them and it didn’t matter if it was something big or small. I think that is part of why I love altered art so much. It gives me the opportunity to change things and make them my own.     ALTER A BINDER   Binders can be very boring and ordinary. This office item is useful for filing many things and it can be very handy even in the craft room. You can store pattern papers, stamps, die cuts, cut outs and much more. But if you are a creative person like me you wouldn’t want to leave the binder in it’s original look.   Here are some ideas how to alter a binder: Cover it with pattern paper Prime it with gesso and then paint …

Christmas Mixed Media Canvas

I lovemaking my own holiday gifts and although I don’t celebrate Christmas (Jews have Hanukkah) I can totally relate to the lights, the holiday spirit and the joy. Giving someone you love a gift you created yourself is not only rewarding and gratifying but it’s also special and unique. Here’s an idea for such a present the only danger is that you will like it too much and give it to…yourself.   This mixed media canvas starts with a 8″ by 8″ canvas. it is then covered with paper, paint, stencils and ink. After the background is ready it’s time to create the tree and decorate it with a little bling.   For a final festive touch add glitter and some word stickers. Add a title, I wrote JOY, but you can choose whatever word you like. You can find full step by step instructions in the video. The canvas can be hanged on the wall, placed on the mantel, be a gift …

HOW TO MAKE A CHRISTMAS ADVENT CALENDAR

Inside: how to make a Christmas advent calendar to countdown the days until Christmas!   Since I was a kid whenever I had an important event coming up I always made a table with the number of days I had to wait and I crossed off each day counting down the days remaining. It was such a thrill to see fewer and fewer days that needed to be crossed off and that whatever I was waiting for almost here. With the holidays and Christmas fast approaching I imagine many such tables or advent calendars are popping around your homes.     WHAT IS AN ADVENT CALENDAR   Advent is an important part of the Christian calendar. It means ‘coming’ and it’s the period before Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus. It is all about preparing for Christmas Day. An Advent calendar is a special calendar used to count the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. Since the date of …

"Our photos" mini album in a camera box

It’s fun to be a Basically Bare Design Team member because you get to play with cute chipboards like these camera chipboards from the Paparazzi set. When I saw these cameras I just knew they will be a mini album! To add to the fun I also created a cute camera box to house the mini album. I created the pages by tracing the camera chipboard onto thin chipboard and papers and then adhering them. Then I embellished the pages with photo theme embellishments such as stickers, cogwheels and film strip and stamps. I created flaps and pockets to allow more room for journaling and photos. I created the box from chipboard parts and covered it with patterned paper. For full instructions on how to create the mini album and build the box check out the video tutorial. This was so much fun! I got to combine two of my greatest passions in crafts: mini albums and paper engineering! You …

HOW TO TRANSFER A PHOTO TO PAPER QUICKLY

Inside: how to transfer a photo to paper   I cherish all the photos I take but making scrapbooks and mini albums can sometimes be boring. So I try to find new ways to make craft projects with photos or combine them with what I create.     HOW TO TRANSFER A PHOTO   Photo transfers were once a complicated, sometimes hazardous process. Then, technology made it possible for anyone to scan, copy, and print photos from the comfort of their home or studio. Images printed on inkjet printers are much safer to use and easier to transfer. There are many image transfer methods and they differ depending on the surface you’re transferring the image to.   TRANSFER A PHOTO TO PAPER METHODS   There are two methods to transfer an image to paper:   LASER PRINTED PHOTO   TRIM THE PHOTO – you can cut around the photo in a rectangle or square shape or you can fussy …
