Hi dear members! It’s been a long time since we made a steampunk project in the VIP room! So today let’s take a break from technique learning and make a full mixed media steampunk style project!     WHAT IS STEAMPUNK Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century’s British Victorian era or American “Wild West” and incorporate mechanical parts and fantasy alongside old futuristic and Victorian elements like hot air balloons, light bulbs, wings  and pipes. For any steampunk project you want to make you need two basic elements: color and materials.   COLOR In order to get that industrial effect you need to use the right colors. The basic colors will be metal colors like gold, silver and copper as well as rust and oxidization colors like turquoise and green. …

Halloween Spell Book and a Freebie!

Hi dear members! It’s time for some Halloween fun! Halloween is just around the corner so I thought I would share a really cool project with a freebie as well!     Today I want to show you how to create a Spell book, filled with all kinds of spooky ingredients fit for a witch! The technique to create this book is easy and fun it just needs a little bit of time. First a few words about the book itself: You will need a book you can cut, paint and alter. I used a thin book so with all the embellishments inside it can’t close. That’s why I didn’t do anything to the outside cover. However, if you get a thick enough book so it can close you can alter the outside cover as well. Just continue with the same theme as the inside. Color it, add some “blood” drops, bandages and embellishments and finish with a label. The …

Hi dear members! I’m so proud and excited to present our first guest teacher of the year: Olga Heldwein! Olga is a very talented polish designer who lives in Berlin: “Ever since I discovered scrapbooking I’ve been totally addicted and now I spend hours splashing and splattering ink. I’m always on the lookout for something new, testing new supplies, new tools or finding new ways of using my “old” art stash. My work is either steampunky, with lots of shiny and metallic objects, or clean and bright with lots of white space, but always with a vintage feel. As time has gone on I have gravitated towards Mixed Media and now gesso and gel mediums are always on my work table. For some time now my passion is also my job as I’m designing paperlines and teaching classes all around Erupoe”. Today she’ll teach you how to create this amazing altered steampunk box with lots of embellishments and fun mixed …

Altered Pants Mini Album

Hi dear members! Do you know the saying: “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”? Well, today we’ll be putting this saying into practice. We will be using an old pair of pants to create a mini album cover! You can use any old pants that you have and don’t need not only to help our environment but to create this really unique and fun project.     I have many old clothes I don’t need especially clothes that my two sons outgrew and don’t wear anymore. I decided to use one pair of these pants to create a mini album cover with a fun mini album inside! The pants give the mini album cover a really special and unique look. I created a boys theme mini album because I used boys’ pants but you can create the same mini album with denim or girl’s pants as well.     Important note about the measurements! I do give the measurements …

Hi dear members! We finally came to the fun part! Embellish the shadow box with all sorts of embellishments. this part is your chance to use things from your stash, display family heirlooms or add little souvenirs or trinkets to your shadow box. I have used different embellishments that I had and you can choose to use what I use or just treat them as ideas or inspiration.     In order to help you with the embellishing part I composed a list of possible ideas and items you can use in your shadow box. You can download it here: Gathering Supplies List Other than the ideas in the list you’ll need the following: Gel medium Bandage (the kind you can get at the drug store) Everything else is optional!     The idea of this type of project is to be your own designer. You can decide if you want to fill the box with lots of embellishments or …

In this lesson we will cover the box with squares of paper and create our own “snow” to add texture. All the measurements you need for the squares are in the cutting guide posted on the first lesson. Supply list Pattern paper or cardstock. I used Graphic 45 St. Nicholas, Winter Wonderland and The Twelve Days of Christmas collections. White Gesso 3D sand White acrylic paint Palette knife brush I’ve attached linked photos to all these supplies:                    One important thing to remember, which I also talked about in Lesson One.
