  1. Choose your design: decide on the style or theme of your wall art. You can opt for abstract patterns, inspirational quotes, nature-inspired designs, or anything that reflects your taste.
  2. Select your materials: consider the materials you want to use for your wall art. Some common options include canvas, wood, paper, fabric, or even recycled materials. Choose the one that suits your design and fits within your budget.
  3. Gather art supplies: gather the necessary art supplies such as paint, paintbrushes, markers, colored pencils, scissors, glue, and any other materials specific to your project.
  4. Prepare your surface: if you're using a canvas or wooden panel, make sure it's clean and free from dust or debris. If you're working on paper or fabric, ensure it's properly stretched or secured to prevent wrinkling.
  5. Sketch or plan your design: consider sketching or planning your design on a piece of paper. This will help you visualize the composition and make any necessary adjustments before starting on the actual piece.
  6. Start creating: bring your design to life. Use your chosen art supplies to paint, draw, cut, or assemble the elements of your wall art.
  7. Add texture or dimension: to add depth and interest to your wall art, consider incorporating texture or dimension. You can use materials like textured paint, fabric, buttons, beads, or any other suitable items that enhance your design.
  8. Let it dry and finalize: allow your artwork to dry completely. Once it's dry, make any final touches or adjustments to ensure you're satisfied with the result.
  9. Frame or hang your art: decide whether you want to frame your DIY wall art or hang it as it is. DIY WALL ART ON A CANVAS

My favorite way to create wall art is to play on a canvas. There are so many things you can create on a canvas that your head can spin. You don't need to know special techniques or have specific skills to create a canvas wall art. Some easy and creative ideas are:

  • Making an abstract painted canvas
  • Create a collage with paper pieces
  • Add a photo and embellish around it
  • Write a quote and add art to compliment it
  • Create doodles or shapes on the canvas

CANVAS PRINTS FROM YOUR OWN IMAGE

Create a unique wall art with your own image. Creating a personal canvas print is easy you just upload your photo or illustration to a place where they print on canvases and choose the size of the canvas print. All you need to remember is that it has to have a high enough resolution.  Usually all images, whether they are a photo or an illustration, must have at least one pixel per millimetre on the print. This means that if you want to print a canvas board that is 24 x 24 inches, you need to have an image that is at least 600 x 600 pixels.

You can print:

  • Photos of family or places
  • Patterns you created on other mixed media or canvas projects
  • Art journal pages
  • Scrapbook layouts
  • And more...

Check online any size canvas print or murals you want and turn your art to wall art.

GALLERY WALL

You don't have to create a DIY wall art project from scratch! If you are an artist, crafter or creator and you made some canvases or wall hangings before you can create a gallery wall. Create a gallery wall by arranging a collection of your artwork, canvese or even unique items like vintage plates or mirrors. Mix and match different sizes, shapes, and frames for an eclectic look. Experiment with different layouts on the floor before hanging them on the wall.

It doesn't matter what type of DIY wall art you create, as long as it's your creation it will have that extra unique look to it because it is your personal creation that no one else has or could have!
