Inside: how to make altered matchboxes and easily recycle them into a drawer vanity. I don’t like to throw things away. I’m not a hoarder but when I throw some things away, especially boxes of all types it always seems like a waste. I always think to myself there must be something to do with them instead of throwing them away. Usually I end up throwing them into the recycling bin, but every now and then I get a really creative idea – altered matchboxes! This time I took all my empty matchboxes and made them into a miniature drawer vanity. WHAT IS ALTERED ART Altered art is the transformation or alteration of ordinary, everyday objects into decorative pieces using a wide variety of different techniques and materials, for example, rubber stamps, fabric, paper, paint and fibres. It’s a broad term that includes many artistic styles or genres, but at its most basic describes …

Sometimes I think I should have been born in another country. Not because I don’t love my country but because I don’t like the weather! Most of the year it’s hot and the summers are the worst. I love the cold, the rain and the snow…So I thought maybe if I created a stormy art journal page the rain will be here sooner than later… This art journal page was really fun to create and very easy. The background is all Gelatos with color spray that have a double role – wet the Gelatos and add color. I just layered color on color until I was happy with the way it looked. Then I added texture with stencils, dimensional paint and gesso. I did it in a cool technique called double stenciling. it gives a great effect of two tone shapes. Finally it was time to create the dripage effect. I wanted drop of water running down the page like …

Inside: how to make the tp steampunk mini album pages WOW!! I got so many amazing responses. Thank you! I’m so happy you liked this mini album as much as I did. Wasn’t it really fun and easy to make? Well…after much anticipation here comes the second part…THE PAGES! We’ll venture into these beautiful pages and learn how to create them one by one! Let’s get started! TP STEAMPUNK MINI ALBUM PAGES The TP rolls are perfect for creating pockets so they are perfect as pages in an interactive mini album. To enhance the steampunk look instead of covering the tp rolls with paper or paint I gave them a faux leather look with a fun technique. This album is full of interactive surprises. Pockets, flaps and more… as well as handmade embellishments that will take your breath away. Some of the work is delicate and requires patience but believe me, it’s …

Lately life is not easy. We are going through a tough time here when rockets are flying and terrorists want to destroy us. In times like this it’s a little hard to create but I have come to realize I need to force myself to create because it distracts me and helps me with the everyday stress. The best thing to create, while also inspiring yourself is an art journal page with a quite to empower you. This is one of those rare times when I started a project with very little in my head. Meaning, I didn’t know what I wanted to create and I didn’t have a picture in my head like I usually do. I knew what colors I wanted ad that was about it. From there I just started to create, using my favorite mediums and supplies, basically trying to have fun. working with so many bright colors and an inspirational quote was very liberating and …

We all have our own aims or goals in life, the trick is not only to set aims for ourselves but to stay focused and determined enough to keep walking on the road to fulfill them. But sometimes it feels like that famous sentence: “Man makes plans and God laughs”. We set goals that we want to achieve but life takes us to completely different directions or is it? Do we set the right goals for ourselves or there is a hidden hand that points the direction we should go to? I think we want things and we set aims to achieve it but at the end of the day if we do what we love, believe in it and in us the universe will take care of the rest. This week’s video tutorial us all about the aims of our lives. I created a motivational mixed media art journal page with a quote that talks exactly about this. My art journal …

I’m not a jewelry maker but every now and then I like to play with a little bit of jewelry making. It’s actually kind of easy if you try it. My favorite material to play with is Ice Resin, which is a 2-part epoxy resin. Part A is the Resin. It has a slightly blue tint and Part B is the hardener. It has a very slight yellow tint. It comes in a plunger that dispenses equal parts of both parts and is really to use. It’s really fun to play with and the only problem, at least for someone like me who likes immediate satisfaction, is that you have to wait a few hours before it’s dry. I made three pendants and tried a few things and techniques. First I tried different mediums to color the resin. Both Perfect Pearls powder and acrylic paint worked very well and blended completely with the resin. You can create different degrees of transparency …

Creating an art journal page always makes me happy. It inspires me not only when I create it but also afterwards, when I look at the page I created. That’s why I always try to add a quote or a sentence that speaks to me, a sentence that inspires me and lifts me up. This time I added a paraphrase of a quote made by the famous author Hans Christian Andersen who said that Just living is not enough one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower. Well… I changed it a little. After all this is my art journal right? I created the back ground with stencils and a really fun technique called reverse stenciling. I added gesso, Gelatos and stamping. The more layers of color you add to your page the better it will look that’s what I always say. I added big circles with acrylic paint and sponge and smaller circles I created with Gelatos and a …
