Inside: a cool way to repurpose old plastic toys and use them to make a configuration box I’m a sentimental person and it’s hard for me to let go of things, especially if they remind me of good tikes. So when I had to get rid of some old plastic toys because my boys grew out of them I wanted to find something to do with them instead of throwing them or giving them away. I couldn’t keep all of the toys so I did end up giving them away, but I kept a few for a craft idea I had – use them in a configuration box. WHY REPURPOSE OLD TOYS Plastic is not good for the environment and you what to do what you can to help. You don’t like throwing things away. You have unused, broken toys that you can’t really give away in the condition they’re in. The children are out …

Inside: easy technique to bind a book without any sewing! If you read a little about me you know I started scrapbooking because of my grandfather (you can read the full story here). But that is not the only thing I learned from my grandfather… he also taught me all about how to bind books, which he learned from his father. Every time I bind a book I think about all the history, tradition and craftsmanship in this task and it makes me smile. Binding books is indeed fun but it is also time consuming and not for everyone’s patience. So I wanted to come up with a way everyone could enjoy binding and make their own books. BIND A BOOK TRADITIONALLY Traditional book binding almost always involves some kind of stitching or sewing and that makes the process technical and time consuming. It doesn’t mean it’s not good or that you shouldn’t try it …

Inside: how to make altered matchboxes and easily recycle them into a drawer vanity. I don’t like to throw things away. I’m not a hoarder but when I throw some things away, especially boxes of all types it always seems like a waste. I always think to myself there must be something to do with them instead of throwing them away. Usually I end up throwing them into the recycling bin, but every now and then I get a really creative idea – altered matchboxes! This time I took all my empty matchboxes and made them into a miniature drawer vanity. WHAT IS ALTERED ART Altered art is the transformation or alteration of ordinary, everyday objects into decorative pieces using a wide variety of different techniques and materials, for example, rubber stamps, fabric, paper, paint and fibres. It’s a broad term that includes many artistic styles or genres, but at its most basic describes …

Inside: how to make a tp steampunk mini album with pocket pages Do you ever see an object and think “what can I make out of it”? Inside: how to craft your paper scraps and make a clever and fast junk journal I’m not a hoarder! But I’ll admit I hate throwing away paper scraps, even the small ones. I feel like I’m throwing away an important resource and it just makes me so uncomfortable I simply don’t throw any paper scraps. That created another problem of piles of craft paper piles that need using… WHAT ARE PAPER SCRAPS This might sounds like a stupid question but the definition of scraps is a subjective definition. Some will consider a small 2 inches piece like a paper scrap and others will consider it as trash and throw it away. So the first thing you need to do when crafting your paper scraps is to decide how big is your pile and sort through it. Once you do that using your scraps will be much easier! HOW TO CRAFT YOUR PAPER SCRAPS …

Inside: how to make a Christmas advent calendar to countdown the days until Christmas! Since I was a kid whenever I had an important event coming up I always made a table with the number of days I had to wait and I crossed off each day counting down the days remaining. It was such a thrill to see fewer and fewer days that needed to be crossed off and that whatever I was waiting for almost here. With the holidays and Christmas fast approaching I imagine many such tables or advent calendars are popping around your homes. WHAT IS AN ADVENT CALENDAR Advent is an important part of the Christian calendar. It means ‘coming’ and it’s the period before Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus. It is all about preparing for Christmas Day. An Advent calendar is a special calendar used to count the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. Since the date of …

Inside: how to make a glamorous recycled paper chest of drawers Everyone has a collection. Some like to collect stamps, others have stamps collection or even movie memorabilia. I love boxes. I have many of them, even though I don’t have many things to put in them. During the years I bought a few, but I also really love making them. It always amazes me how little you need to build a box and how easy it is. BUILDING A PAPER BOX Building a paper box is a simple process that usually requires folding and gluing You can make a box in any shape and although it will not hold very heavy items it can be useful and not just decorative. WHAT TO PUT INSIDE A PAPER BOX As long as the items are dry and relatively small you can put almost anything inside a paper box. Here are some ideas: Beads …
