Lighten Your Load Art Journal Page

Hi dear crafty friends! Today I’m sharing another page from my art journal: Lighten Your Load Art Journal Page. I love sharing my process and art journey with you in the hopes you’ll get the art journal bug too.     Lighten Your Load Art Journal Page First let me say that I never wait for an idea to do some art journaling. I used to. But then I realized that if I wait for an idea to come I’ll be waiting for a long time. Art journaling is like a muscle if you don’t move it’ll atrophy. If you won’t work in your art journal you’ll get rusty and slowly it would seem almost impossible…       So this page has started as a way to keep my creative juices flowing. I had no idea what to do on this page so I started with just putting some of my favorite colors with a brush. No particular order …

Poison Altered Pills Bottle

Hi dear crafty friends! It’s Halloween soon! So today I want to share with you a really easy and fast spooky project: Poison Altered Pills Bottle. It’s a perfect addition to any house decoration you’re planning or even as part of a center piece for your table!     Poison Altered Pills Bottle 1. Use any empty pills bottle or other container you have. First cover the container with black gesso.      2. After the gesso has dried completely add texture to the container with sandy modeling paste or other textured paste. After this layer dries cover everything with another layer of black gesso.     3. When the container is dry add a little color with acrylic paints. I used brown and gray. Add a twine around the lid of the container and a label to the front. I also added a little skull to complete the effect.      You can create a complete set of altered …

Stand Alone Art Journal Page

Hi dear crafty friends! Today I’m sharing my new addition to my art journal: Stand Alone Art Journal Page. This page is full with autumn colors so it’s just right for this weather. The techniques I used in this page are really simple but I wanted to share with you my creative process while making the page.     Stand Alone Art Journal Page I wanted to create a page with only fall colors. Beyond that I had no idea what to add to the page. So I started with adding sprays and stencils patterns with red, orange and yellow paints. I also added some stamping with a brown permanent ink. Up until that point it wasn’t really a page, but more of a background. One of the stamped I used was of circles and the way I stamped the page reminded me of a tree. From there I knew what I wanted to do. I drew a shape of …

How to create a 3D mixed media project

Hi dear crafty friends! Today I’m answering a question I get asked a lot: How to create a 3D mixed media project. People often ask me how do you get so much dimension on your mixed media projects especially regarding the elements. The basic question is how to give them enough height and create the layers that make the project look 3D. Well… here’s a tutorial to answer this question.     How to create a 3D mixed media project The basic idea is to arrange you elements in layers and give every layer extra height with chipboard pieces. I used to use foam tape which I realized does not hold the weight of these elements especially the metal ones. Plus it’s kind of expensive if you need to use a lot of it. Instead I’m using thick chipboard pieces which I cut from leftover chipboard pieces. I glue the chipboard pieces together and then attach the element to the …

Believe Mixed Media Canvas

Hi dear crafty friends! Today I’m sharing a new project with you: Believe Mixed Media Canvas. The inspiration for this canvas came from the More Than Words Challenge, which this month was Delicate and Fabric. At first I thought this challenge is not exactly for me, but then I decided to try anyway. Sometimes our first reaction is no because it’s something that is out of our comfort zone but if we challenge ourselves we might even surprise ourselves…       Believe Mixed Media Canvas So I thought about fabric. I’m not so much into lace and I don’t sew. So how can I add fabric to a mixed media project? I decided to add the fabric to the background with a very exciting technique I really like. I used a fabric white fabric and wrapped the canvas with it. However instead of wrapping upholstery style where everything is nice and tight, I created wrinkles and texture with the …
